Thanks, Ross, for reminding me that I am confused as well. I did in fact
have xserver-xgl installed, from my experiments with compiz/Xgl. At the
time when I used compiz/Xgl, I also had the screen blank every 10
minutes, as I remember now.

I stopped using it a while ago, but I never uninstalled xserver-xgl.
Then, ca. 2 weeks ago there was an update to xorg, and xserver-xgl is
now started automatically if installed. This happened for me, even
though I do not log in with an Xgl session. And this caused the screen
blanks. I have now uninstalled xserver-xgl and all is fine for me.
