------- Comment From [email protected] 2015-08-19 19:47 EDT------- Hi Brian,
When this package isn't automatically installed with the desktop environment packages, X will fail to load and crash the system when a AMD graphics card is plugged in it, The following is the lspci output for the card: 0006:00:00.0 PCI bridge: IBM Device 03dc 0006:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar GL [FirePro 2270] 0006:01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series] I am attaching a file with the output for the following commands that were executed in a ppc64 system after a fresh install of the ubuntu-14.04.3-server-ppc64el.iso [1]: cat /etc/lsb-release (to show ubuntu version) apt-get install ubuntu-desktop (xserver-xorg-video-ati isn't listed in the packages that will be installed) a[t-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati (just to show that the package is available for installation) apt-cache show xserver-xorg-video-ati (the "Task" line with the desktop environment packages that were shown in your output aren't showing up) Let me know if you need any additional logs.
