In the meantime I switched to Fedora (Mate flavor). Therefore I think
that I cannot provide a lot of useful information to fix this bug. One
final observation though: I observe a long delay while shutting down
also with Fedora Mate, if a Windows share is mounted at the time of
shutdown. As I always use autofs (alias automount) ony any Linux
distribution, it is sometimes not obvious why the shutdown hangs.
Sometimesit hangs, sometimes not. It seams that logging out also
unmounts the Windows shares. This could explain why logging out helped
under Ubuntu Mate. At least for Fedora Mate I can say for sure that a
(auto-) mounted Windows share hinders the system from shutting down
cleanly.
