postfix only ships an init.d script, which makes it impossible to capture any stdout/stderr into the journal (or rsyslog etc.). So this would translate to "please ship a proper systemd unit".
However, this particular bug report just shows that your file system (or even hard disk) is seriously broken: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/215975520/JournalErrors.txt shows tons of errors, and amongst them some reasons for postfix: Aug 31 08:03:42 hostname postfix/trivial-rewrite[22559]: fatal: /etc/mailname: file has 2 hard links Closing as this is not a problem with postfix but with a corrupted file system. ** Changed in: postfix (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1490607 Title: Improve feedback of postfix systemd unit start failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/1490607/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
