Public bug reported:
The Hylafax package offered is version 6.0.6 (released Sept 2012). It
fails to receive color faxes - they come out as black pages. (The
colorspace is one that no office app on earth supports except possibly
photoshop). Hylafax also fails to transform those fax tiffs to pdf in a
viewable format. They come out all black page also. Again due to the
ITULab colorspace issue.
This bug has been resolved in Hylafax+ 5.5.6 (released April 2015). HylaFAX+
is a sourcefoge fork of Hylafax (hylfax.org), the two projects have been doing
parallel development for about 10 years ie since 2005.
Hylafax leapfrogged a version number on Hylafax+, ironically Hylafax+ 5.5.6
(2015) has higher performance, more bug fixes, support for color/grayscale
faxes, and more actively maintained than Hylafax 6.0.6 (2012).
I nominate that you add Hylafax+ package to universe, in order to solve this
bug regarding color/grayscale fax.
The version number doesn't mean it's necessarily better, or even the same
project!
When you know about Hylafax+ you go for Hylafax+, because Hylafax is
awfully outdated and has too many bugs leading to incomplete support for
the latest fax technologies.
