Benjamin Keyser persuaded me that I should take another look at this.
The current behavior is that the display turns off (a) when you press
the sleep button or (b) whenever the lock timeout elapses, whichever is
sooner. This is simple, but you might want the display to turn off
before or after the lock timeout.
