I have just tested Unity8+nvidia+wily and it seems to work for me. Installed
via:
sudo apt-get install unity8-desktop-session-mir
and then select Unity8 on the login screen.
Try updating your nvidia system and then:
Do you still get a black screen in Unity8?
Did you start Unity8 in the same way I did?
What Nvidia card/chip are you using? You can find out with:
sudo grep GL /var/log/lightdm/unity-system-compositor.log
