Ok, that's just odd and doesn't make much sense to me, but yes, after rebooting, I am able now to create USB sticks from both 14.04.3 and Wily Daily using 0.2.56.3ubuntu0.1.
I really would not have expected to reboot for that, to be honest... then again, I'm quite old school and the idea of rebooting a linux machine at all is something I seldom do. I remember the days of having up to a full year of uptime... heh...
