When upgrading from version 2.6.15-26.46 to 2.6.15-26.47 of linux-
image-2.6.15-26-amd64-generic the X server failed to start.
The reason was that the proprietatry nvidia driver nvidia.ko found in
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-26-amd64-generic version 2.6.15.11-3
failed to load with the following error messgaes in the kernel log:
