Please enable smb (Samba) support.
For testing, I built mpv from source and playback via smb:// URL works
nicely (apt-get source mpv; apt-get build-dep mpv; apt-get install
libsmbclient-dev; python waf configure --enable-libsmbclient; python waf
build).
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 15.04
Release: 15.04
$ LANG=C apt-cache policy mpv
mpv:
Installed: 0.8.0-1ubuntu1
