Ken Sharp, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. linux-lts-saucy reached EOL on August 2014. See the following documents for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack
However, while your statement on how your graphics card is not supported by the proprietary nvidia drivers in linux-lts-trusty was noticed, I'm not seeing evidence to this. As per nvidia's website, the latest version of the driver available for your card is 173.14.39. Also, this is available in both Precise with linux-lts-trusty and in Trusty itself as per https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 . Hence, it would appear it is in fact supported, but wasn't working when you last tested it. I would recommend filing a bug report on the graphics card issue via: ubuntu-bug xorg Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. Pivoting back to the scope of this report, would you be able to either downgrade your kernel to 3.2.x to maintain supportability and security updates, or upgrade to linux-lts-trusty+ so troubleshooting may continue on a supported release? As well, you may have already done this, but it wouldn't hurt to rule out a hardware issue by stress testing the CPU via https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Checkbox . ** Package changed: linux-lts-saucy (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Tags added: latest-bios-a07 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1421490 Title: Hyperthreading not always detected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1421490/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
