** Summary changed:

- garbled video output after resume if lid was closed during suspend state
(Inspiron 4150)
+ garbled or no video output after resume from suspend (Inspiron 4150)

** Description changed:

  Dell Inspiron 4150 laptop
- Ubuntu Breezy 5.10
+ EDIT (previously Breezy): Ubuntu Dapper

- Works:
- *Hibernate via log-out menu and resume with power button.
- *Suspend via log-out menu and resume with power button, as long as lid is
never closed during suspend state (see below).
+ EDIT (previously resume worked if lid was not closed):
+ Resume from suspend no longer works regardless of whether lid is closed or
not.

- Doesn't work:
- *Suspend via log-out menu, close lid, resume by opening lid. Results in
garbled video output and/or large square mouse cursor. Only option is to
power-down via power button.
-
- Also doesn't work:
- Suspend via lid-close. Screen turns off and locks, but no suspend is
initiated.
+ EDIT (previously only related to lid open/close):
+ Suspend via log-out menu, resume by power button (if lid was never closed) or
lid open. Results in no video output, or large square mouse cursor. Only option
is to hard reboot.

Have tried some changes to acpi-support, lid.sh, and resume.sh to no
  avail.
+
+ EDIT (additional information):
+ Successful suspend/resume by running two scripts in terminal. Scripts use
vbetools commands and are posted in forums here:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1500286&postcount=2
+
+ Still unable to suspend via Ubuntu gui suspend functions; however,
+ resume randomly worked once out of roughly 50 failed attempts.
