Ah, ok. That is a wild hack (to put it simple), it calls external
programs (via shell escapes), converts them to pdf, and includes them.

I would say that this doesn't really ask for a dependency.

You could take a look at pgf/tikz, too, which does dvi/ps - pdf
switching automatically. So you can compile a document either with
latex/dvips or with pdflatex
