I'm having a similar issue on 15.10.
- I've done a Memtest to check for faulty memory: no faulty memory found
- I've tried both proprietry and open-source nVidia drivers: Didn't seem to
have an effect
- ctrl-alt-F[1-6] don't work
- No kernel panic
- No crash log in /var/crash
- Tried Firefox with a clean profile doesn't help
Dissimilar issues
- My mouse-pointer usually still works not always
- Music seems to keep playing (using Plex on a chromium browser window) – I
never waited (long enough) for a buffer under-run but it might be that
networking still works and only X + HID input is affected?
- Sys-requests are working for me! So I can do SysRq-REISUB. Unfortunately
dumping to the console does not work, since I'm not at a console at the time of
the crash, and I cannot get to one either.
I've only had a crash without Firefox once, all the other times I've had
it within seconds to minutes after using Firefox. I'm writing this
message via Chromium and the system is booted for around 10 minutes now,
no crash. Using Firefox my system would've crahsed already, I usually do
not even come as far as being logged in on Launchpad
My upgrade path has been from 14.04 -> 14.10 -> 15.04 -> 15.10. I've
never had crashes on the systems before and I did not change any
hardware on the system.
