These are the files present in the /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d directory:

├── 000kernel-change
├── 000record-status
├── 00logging
├── 00powersave
├── 50unload_alx
├── 60_wpa_supplicant
├── 75modules
├── 90clock
├── 94cpufreq
├── 95anacron
├── 95hdparm-apm -> ../power.d/95hdparm-apm
├── 95led
├── 98video-quirk-db-handler
└── 99video

I followed the steps you asked for, removing one by one, in sequential
order starting with 000kernel-change and ending with 99 video. At each
step, I run the command "sudo pm-suspend" and it worked fine always; by
working fine I mean that the computer in fact went to sleep and stayed
at that state for at least 20 seconds, until I manually powered it on
again.

So, according to the tests that I did in my computer following the given
procedure, none of those "quirk" files seemed to be the culprit.
