Public bug reported:

Hi,

grub does not set the settings for german keyboards.

reason 1)

in /etc/grub.d/00_header there's

grub_lang=`echo $LANG | cut -d . -f 1`
...
  set lang=${grub_lang}

which results in

  set lang=de_DE

while the language file is named

  /boot/grub/locale/de.mo

reason 2)
However, even changing grub.cfg to set lang=de or making a copy of de.mo to
de_DE.mo does not help, keyboard settings remain US.
