When I was fishing around in /etc/gdm/custom.conf I noticed this line: [daemon] # Uncomment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg #WaylandEnable = false
After doing a bit of research I found this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GDM#Use_Xorg_backend which says that by default, GDM 3.16+ uses Wayland as the default display server. I installed the xwayland package and GDM started working again. Apparently xwayland isn't one of GDM's dependencies, given my "apt-cache rdepends gdm" output. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1500673 Title: gdm unusable after upgrading to 15.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/1500673/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
