Same problem here, trusty 64bit xubuntu. There are some things which I
believe can be responsible for this, but not reliably reproducible:

- changing files of the displayed folder, for example 
deleting/creating/renaming files very frequently (>20/s) using a script
- displaying a folder where files (mpeg or tar) are growing (because of 
recording or download)
- i also recognized that when displaying a folder and use sorting and some 
files are selected, and then changes on the file system result in a different 
sorting, the selection changes to different files. maybe the cause of our 
creash is somewhere in this area
