It looks like my issue is a combination of i915 and intel_pstates. I'm following the thread at this bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88012
After switching my DELL Inspiron 3646 to the 3.16 kernel, I've had little to no trouble(even stressing the system using: glmark2 --run-forever).
