Thanks for your willingness to help me.
Because I had installed the "tweak"program, and apparently used it
incorrectly, I messed up my 15.10 installation to the point where I
couldn't use my computer. So I reinstalled 15.10 and made numerous
attempts to upgrade my BIOS---with no success. (According to what I read,
there was supposed to be an "easy flash" setting in the BIOS advanced
settings--but I couldn't find anything near it). I tried one manual change
in my BIOS (snooping change from disabled to enabled) but it didn't help
with the situation so I returned it to disabled.
The bug continues to plague my system and whereas sometimes I can get back
to a normal screen by ctl+alt+del and then x-ing out the close/restart
box, often the whole system freezes and my mouse stops working so I have
to reboot.
The BIOS version is 0310
release date: 12/24/07

I just got "frozen " out and rebooted. fortunately gmail saved everything
in this note as a draft/

For the meanwhile, I'll ciontinue tryint to upgrade my BIOS.
Thanks again
