We have been encountering issues at an identical time of an install with ubiquity-frontend-mythbuntu. This is the step that would be installing new packages for us and removing packages (Whereas its language packs here). I've ruled out any issues with python-apt and ubiquity themselves by updating both an older (functional) disk and making sure everything functions as expected.
