I don't know whether or not duplicate status is wrong.. but an internet
search led me here and I'm hoping to give a possible fix to someone else
who runs into this or something that looks like this:
Issue for me was ~/.Xauthority was owned by root. Not quite sure how
that happened...
This fixed my issue:
sudo chmod user.user ~/.Xauthority
