In my Acer laptop, I get NO sound at all! with Kubuntu64bits (FF_7.04) or Ubuntu 7.04. And according to the forums, this is quite common with Ubuntu. It's a shame, because, besides that, is an excellent distro! Please, put some more generic option that may run ;-)
