I tried to use a virtual machine to reproduce this issue, but for some reason, it runs Ubuntu GNOME 32 bits very slow and after installation, it fails to boot. However, using a bootable USB I confirmed that after updating, there was no "synaptics_ic2" in /etc/modules. I'm thinking that maybe another program added that line.
