I have recently upgrade from Precise to Trusty and wanted to take
advantage of the new kernel so I have had to dump the Nvidia drivers.
Sadly I shall have to reverse this decision. With Nouveau:
1. Random colour aberrations appear on the screen. This is particularly
obvious when there is a tooltip: all that shows is a rather odd colour.
2. Brightness is random. The screen itself is usually dull, though it
sometimes looks okay. Each application can have its own brightness level
which is normally horribly dark.
3. The screen no longer fits the monitor. I thought it might be the
monitor at first but it works fine with the Nvidia driver.
4. (Possibly Chrome's fault) Chrome randomly renders black and black
blocks on the screen. Presumably it's looking for something that isn't
working properly with Nouveau.
The same is true of the originally installed (Trusty) package. I gave
the lts-vivid package a go but there's no real difference.
