Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-nv
I noticed this bug when doing 'make expand' during Chandler full build, as explained here: http://chandlerproject.org/Developers/BuildingChandlerDesktop#The%20long%20and%20more%20difficult%20way. Specifically, it happens when the wxPython source tarball is unpacked and the list of files is streamed in gnome-terminal. Typically the fan goes on high, slows down, high again, then power off. Maybe automatic power off due to overheating. Pretty scary, so unless I don't have to reproduce this on purpose I'd rather not. The computer is a Dell Latitude D820 (I've written more about this machine in http://chandlerproject.org/Journal/UbuntuOnLatitudeD820): Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7600 (2.33GHz) 4M L2 Cache, 667Mhz Dual Core; 15.4 inch Wide Screen WSXGA+ LCD Panel, 1680x1050 pixels; 2.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS; 512MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 120M TurboCache™. I've seen this issue now with 32-bit Dapper Drake, 64-bit Feisty Fawn and 64-bit Gutsy Gibbon beta. It happens only with the open source X drivers. Nvidia drivers do not exhibit this problem. I've also been able to avoid the power off by minimizing the gnome-terminal window when the fan started going fast. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-driver-nv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- computer powers off when unpacking large tarball in gnome-terminal, but not with nvidia drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146426 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
