Will you use "firewall-config" (I may have the name slightly wrong, or this may be an old one as I can't find it any more...) as the GUI for firewalld? Because that doesn't offer you all the options that the command-line version does. So perhaps you could make a built-in GUI which will work with and offer all the options of firewalld?
