I get the same problem trying to boot latest gutsy daily build live CD.

As discussed in other bugs (such as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129817)
The fix to get it to boot it is add the parameter all_generic_ide using the
live CD's F6 menu.

The error says "/bin/sh: can't access tty: job control turned off"
but the actual error is probably in the hard drive controller driver

After booting using all_generic_ide, I have logged the output as
requested in: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies

Brian Murray told me to open a new bug report, upon starting to open one
I discovered this bug which looks the same.

My computer has the following basic hardware:

Mainboard and chip:
Abit NF7-S motherboard (nForce 2 chipset)
AthlonXP 3200+

HDD controllers:
nForce 2 IDE controller (with 1 harddrive and 1 DVD-RW drive, each connected to
separate cables)
Silicon Image Sil3112 SATA controller on board (with 1 SATA drive connected)
Adaptec 19160 PCI SCSI controller in a PCI slot (with 3 SCSI drives connected)

Video Card:
Geforce FX 5900XT in the AGP slot

NO OTHER PCI CARDS.
