I get the same problem trying to boot latest gutsy daily build live CD. As discussed in other bugs (such as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129817) The fix to get it to boot it is add the parameter all_generic_ide using the live CD's F6 menu.
The error says "/bin/sh: can't access tty: job control turned off" but the actual error is probably in the hard drive controller driver After booting using all_generic_ide, I have logged the output as requested in: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Brian Murray told me to open a new bug report, upon starting to open one I discovered this bug which looks the same.
