Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk

Videocard: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon
XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE)
Kernel: 2.6.22-12-generic #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 18:11:30 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Two related issues:

On a laptop upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy, displayconfig-gtk claims that
my user account does not have sufficient privileges to change
resolution. Specifically, it states:

"You need administrative rights to change all screen setting".

My user account does have admin rights and other modules that require
sudo privileges such as networking work fine.

Additionally, when I run displayconfig-gtk from the command line, I get
the following error:

fallback mode
*** Error: no screens were specified in the ServerLayout section

And finally, while the resolution in use by my laptop appears to be
correct, the screen and graphics tool only shows two modes available,
640x480 and 800x600, instead of the actual 1024x768 that I am actually
running.

On a related note, when trying to install ATI's proprietary driver, I
get the following error:

Reconfiguring X.org video drivers is not possible: /etc/X11/xorg.conf is
invalid or does not exist, but the file does indeed exist.

I am happy to do any testing you might think necessary to fix these bugs

** Affects: displayconfig-gtk (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
