Problem is gone in latest Ubuntu kernel.
My server now boots fine after a power failure, using btrfs.
$ uname -a
Linux HpDL380-G7 4.2.0-17-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 23 19:56:16 UTC 2015
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
