With the introduction of xrandr 1.2 enabled drivers in Gutsy, this feature
should now be possible.
Attach an external monitor and hit Fn+F8, or even just type in 'xrandr --auto'
and the external monitor should come up and just work. See man xrandr for
other dynamic head configuration that can be done now.
