Thanks for reporting. You are correct, the missing dependency is the problem. I've found a corresponding Debian bug on this, see the attached bug watch. The good news is that this has been fixed in Debian, and the fix has also been synced to Ubuntu Xenial.
I've tested with verbiste-gnome 0.1.42-2 in Ubuntu Xenial and it pulls in verbiste as expected and opens a window without any error messages when attempting to run the application. The patch which re-adds the dependency is very small (https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab- maint/verbiste.git/commit/?id=5a8eb160bdf049d13cec7ed5a6559b365cdfc4e4). I think it should be rather straight-forward to get a fix into Ubuntu 15.10 through a Stable Release Update [1].
