Public bug reported:
Gradle 2.7-3 is currently uninstallable on Ubuntu Xenial. It fails with the
following error message:
$ sudo apt install gradle
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gradle : Depends: libgradle-plugins-java (>= 2.7-3) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
What is interesting is that I could install libgradle-plugins-java without
issues, though even with this in place I still get the same error message from
gradle. So it is not clear to me why, but it would be interesting to see what
is causing the conflict.
$ apt-cache policy libgradle-plugins-java
libgradle-plugins-java:
Installed: 2.7-3
Candidate: 2.7-3
Version table:
*** 2.7-3 500
500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages
500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Furthermore, since gradle depends on itself, this is currently preventing
version 2.7-4 from building because build dependencies cannot be installed.
I tried on a Debian Sid vm, but I don't get similar error messages
there, so it looks like an Ubuntu-only problem.
