I just encountered this same bug (I think) installing the Gutsy Beta. I
have a SATA drive which I use for my main linux system and an old PATA
drive for backups. My motherboard is an MSI K9N (nForce 570) which by
default orders the PATA drive first, but I change the order in the BIOS
to boot from the SATA disk. However, installing grub wrongly determined
the drive number to be HD1 which resulted in grub "Error 15" on boot.
I'm not sure whether grub was erroneously written to the MBR on the PATA
drive since it was already installed on there anyway, but certainly it
was necessary to edit the menu.lst file manually from the live CD in
order to change HD1 to HD0, at which point everything worked fine.

Installer doesn't recognise SATA disks as primary.
