Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Setting up f-spot (0.4.0-0ubuntu3) ...

Setting up tomboy (0.8.0-1) ...

Processing triggers for libc6 ...
ldconfig deferred processing now taking place
Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-12-generic
Errors were encountered while processing:
 cups-pdf
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "logging/__init__.py", line 753, in emit
File "logging/__init__.py", line 731, in flush
IOError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor

It stopped after the line that says "IOError:". It told me earlier that it
couldn't install cups-pdf. I can't go back up that high in the terminal
window, but it said something along the lines of "lpstat: Attempting to contact
server..." and then "lpadmin: Could not contact server.", or something along
those lines. I don't know if it's related to having remote printers set up?
Especially my default printer being a remote printer? Let me know if you need
more information, I'll help in any way I can.
