Public bug reported:

I started to use in early 2014 Ubuntu with linux-image-3.13.0-64 =
kernel version -65. I deleted kernel versions -65 ....-73 in 21.1.2016
from my PC (HP Elitebook 8530p) with command '''sudo apt-get purge
linux-image-3.13.0-65'' , for each kernel version separately . Now I
left latest 2 versions -74 and - 76 in my PC.

My PC did not have 'kernel panic' situations until sometimes in middle
2015, when PC start up process halted / stopped completely after BIOS
and informed 'Kernel panic'. The only thing I could do was to try to
restart the PC as long as it it started to work once more OK. This same
phenomena continues from time to time despite of new kernel versions in
my PC. Why ? Is it normal in Ubuntu ?

When / if I restart PC after the 'kernel panic' directly via normal
'Ubuntu' opening page, the PC gets ups normally quite well at once.

But if I use some other method, which Ubuntu offers in the opening page,
I have to restart PC 2-3 times before it starts working again normally.
Why ?

Where can I find instructions how / what I should do to avoid these
situations ?

With best regards,

Kauko Peltonen

Title:
Despite of new kernels (now already version -74) my pc continues to
get 'Kernel panic' sometimes and starting process stops completely; I
have to restart pc. In case I restart pc via via normal ubuntu it
usually starts ok, but 'recovery mode' I have to restart pc 2 or 3
times before it works OK. I do not know what is the correct restart
  method.
