I can confirm this.
To reproduce:
1) Open Pidgin, sometimes only works with a few conversation tabs open
2) Have the area where you write a message about 1 line tall, the default size.
3) Type some text. Upon each character press the entire line jumps.
This bug is not experienced when:
A) the area is two or more lines tall
B) You write more than one line in your message.
