I did the update finally and the problem still exists. I can still use my mouse. (sometimes that helps). I am actually in a frozen touchpad mode right now. It seems sure to happen. I am glad I have my mouse. I plugged and unplugged the mouse and it worked. (this bug happens without a mouse plugged in). You need to find a mouse, plug it in and unplug it a few times.
I will try to find out the exact sequence to "cure" the problem, but I am doubtful I can duplicate it reliably.
