Public bug reported:

Installing Ubuntu MATE 16.04 with manual installation freezes ubiquity
when using a already formatted HFS-partition as a "newworld" partition.
It seems somehow created but ubiquity is hanging with 100% cpu not
continuing. After a reboot the "newworld" partition is reckognized and
the manual installation can continue as expected.
