The problem with saying to use port 443 is that this behavior is only
true of the weird hand crafted static server we're running and only true
for know where we support the LXD protocol on port 443 too as a backward
compatibility thing for very old broken LXD clients that didn't know to
use 8443.
As soon as we need a slightly smarter server, the port 443 workaround
will go away and so we absolutely don't want to recommend our users use
this.
