Interesting. So 'mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf' fails but 'mysql --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf' works? Or both of those fail but manually passing username and password as thei are in /etc/mysql/debian.cnf via 'mysql -u debian-sys-maint -p' works?
