*** Update
I was able to reproduce this issue in a fresh provisioning from the
Kubuntu 15.10 ISO, although the boot log now stops at
[OK] Started Accounts Service
(See screen shot).
Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a new VM (VMWare Fusion 8.1.0, although I doubt this matters) 4 cpu
cores, 8GB Ram, 60GB disk
2) Install Kubuntu 15.10 from ISO (x64)
3) Install open-vm-tools
sudo apt-get install open-vm-tools
sudo apt-get install open-vm-tools-desktop
5) Restart
6) Upgrade distribution
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
7) Restart. Machine wont complete the boot process, resulting in a black
screen
