Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug actually has
been fixed already in the dynare package version 4.4.2-2 and newer in
the latest development versions of Ubuntu.

As you have documented here, the workaround for LTS users is to ensure
the libmatio-dev package is installed before installing dynare-matlab.
If you would like to see this fix made available in 14.04, please follow
the instructions for "Requesting a Backport" at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports#Requesting_a_Backport.
