Public bug reported:

Problem started due to Windows saying my xp has to be upgraded, meaning buy a
new computer. Present laptop works and is fast enough for my usage but
Microsoft is making it unacceptable.
I had both Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows xp working fine then I discovered Mint and
decided I would like to make it my only software and just eliminate xp but
trying to do it without losing xp files i.e. pictures, pdf files. Blogs said
it could be done by doing upgrades stepwise from 14.04 up, somewhere in the
middle it malfunctioned.

Before proceeding I will make copies of my files and then do the upgrade
including a disk reformatting, so error fixing 14.04 that has morfed into 15
with problems can be eliminated.

Still l trying to getting my Brother mfc-8220 working with Mint on
another laptop that has Mint installed, my setup disk for printer is for
windows;(
