I just wanted to add, that now Ive upgraded my laptop and reinstalled my desktop with Kubuntu Gutsy Beta. Both machines have one FAT32-partition (details can be found in my post above) and the desktop is still the only one to suffer from this problem. Editing /etc/fstab so that the FAT32-partition on my desktop is never checked, solves the problem.
