Can you please check the output of the following command: ´grep "command line" /var/log/syslog´, or, if this gives no output ´zgrep "command line" /var/log/syslog.1.gz´? If you get something like e.g. vga=792 or vga=0x318 (the digits may differ depending on the screen-resolution you are using by default, important is the vga= statement), you are most likely encountering bug #129910. If so, instructions for a workaround are given in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs- tools/+bug/129910/comments/15 for a workaround.
