Mine does about the same, although if I restart X, it seems that i
changed xorg.conf so that it's completely screwed up, making X unable to
start. Luckily i had a backup of xorg.conf.

Using gutsy Beta with fresh updates on a Dell D420. (Intel GMA 945)

my screen is correclty identified by xrandr.
