I cannot go to upgrade to that daily image because this is the company's laptop and I have work to do.
What I can tell more than that is that yesterday after lunch I installed the kernel 4.4.5-040405-generic (from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v4.4.5-wily/) and that it did not freeze since. In addition, with this kernel I have no problems using the apt to update software (as I was having with 4.5.0-040500rc7), but I could not install the proprietary wireless driver bcmwl-kernel-source for my wireless card (Broadcom Corporation BCM4352 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter) because "kernel package linux-headers-4.4.5-040405-generic is not supported". I may go and try an older kernel (but still something above 4.2, like 4.3) hoping that it will not freeze my laptop and that it will work with the bcmwl-kernel-source package. At this point I will move again the bug in status Confirmed, because I cannot give you more info (I cannot go and install the daily image of 16.04). ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1552333 Title: After upgrade to 4.2 kernel Ubuntu 14.04 LTS randomly freezes completely To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1552333/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
