It seems the new version includes new features in addition to bug fixes. If you're interested in getting this to 16.04 LTS, you should follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess#FeatureFreeze_Exceptions process. Otherwise this could be considered for 16.10 after the development for it opens next month.
