> Why is adding this feature now in 16.04 LTS worth the risk of other
fixes not making it?

I know we arrived late in requesting the FFe, it's true that this feature is
under the works for long time, and actually ready way before the FF.
Unfortunately the decision process in getting this approved took longer, thus
we arrived late.

The thing is that this feature will be, in any case, default on Ubuntu
Kylin and thus we can expect that both we and the kylin team will be
happy to support this and ensure that any eventual bug is addressed
before the final freeze, and with SRUs (hoping that this is not needed).

Since our community is also somewhat interested in this, I think that
having such feature for an LTS is still something that could add unity
some preference and gain back some lost users.

While it's true that the diffs are quite big, the newly added code is really
not touching in the vast major part of our existing (default) codepath, and
thus I don't expect regressions.
Anyway, I personally will be happy to spend even my extra time to fix issues in
the new codepath.
